Cambodian Defense Spokesperson Reports Calm but Cautions About Possible Developments Along Border

Phnom Penh, August 3, 2025 — The spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia has announced that, as of 8:45 p.m. on August 3, 2025, the situation on the border remains calm. However, the country’s armed forces remain on high alert amid ongoing tensions.

In a statement issued today, the Ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s firm commitment to the ceasefire agreement signed in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on July 28, 2025. The spokesperson urged the public to rely solely on official channels for accurate information and to be cautious of false news that may circulate.

Further details emerged at approximately 10:49 a.m. today, according to credible intelligence reports. The Ministry stated that the Thai military, in coordination with Thai authorities, has instructed remaining civilians in the Surin Province border area to evacuate by the evening. The statement also suggested that Thailand may be planning military operations targeting significant locations along the border, including Tamone Thom Temple, Ta Krabey Temple, Preah Vihear Temple, and the Anseh area.

Adding to the heightened tensions, former Cambodian Prime Minister and Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen issued a serious warning via his social media channels. He expressed concerns over the possibility of a Thai military attack on Cambodia tonight, citing an earlier statement from the Ministry of National Defense spokesperson regarding potential hostilities.

The Cambodian government continues to monitor the situation closely and remains committed to resolving the dispute peacefully while maintaining the security and sovereignty of the nation.
